dorothy
I like this: Foundations of Western Civilization I & II (Set) (96 lectures, 30 minutes/lecture) Course No. 8701 http://www.teach12.com/ttcx/CourseDescLong2.aspx?cid=8701&pc=History%20-%20Modern My dc have just watched all of Ken Burns' Civil War documentary, loved it and learned so much. We have done a lot of readings alongside but it really brought things to life. I wonder if something like the above lecture series could be a good "spine" and then have a reading/assignment list to go with it. DC would be in 4th and 6th grade. THoughts/experiences? NancyNellen
My 6th grader is doing Early Middle Ages and Late Middle Ages this year. He is about 14 lectures in and is enjoying it. He is learning a lot, and practicing taking notes, turning them into an outline, and writing a one page summary. He is a mature 6th grader. My current 5th grader would probably find it a bit over her head.
Beth in SW WA
I like this: Foundations of Western Civilization I & II (Set) (96 lectures, 30 minutes/lecture) Course No. 8701 http://www.teach12.com/ttcx/CourseDescLong2.aspx?cid=8701&pc=History%20-%20Modern THoughts/experiences? I am listening to this series currently for my own edification :). My dc, 6th & 8th, would not enjoy this series. There are so many better options for logic stage history. My blog lists what we are doing w/ SOTW. We use TTC World History w/ Linwood Thompson. That lecture series is geared for high schoolers, but can be used w/ younger students (because he's so darn good!) :) Edited November 18, 2008 by Beth in SW WA more info
Jenny in Florida
We'll be doing the middle ages and Renaissance next year, and I've been looking for materials. I just can't find quite the right series to go with my other plans that is also available through either my local library or Netflix. I'm stil considering it, though.
