Kate CA
Does anyone use these? Would they be a good way to increase reading comprehension? Yes, and yes. I use them and like them a great deal. They are worth the money in my opinion as they build systematically up the phonics ladder. They have been very helpful for us. :) Warmly, Kate
Patricia in WA
I agree with Kate. They have been very helpful with both my boys. The higher level books I have used for copywork for my oldest at times.
Alana in Canada
I have some originals--last revised in 1920. I have the kids read aloud from them. Using selections for copywork is a brilliant idea. Thanks.
chiguirre
I have a set of McGuffey's from when I was a girl. I was a big Little House on the Prairie fan.:o The Primer, First and Second Reader are a bit stilted, the upper levels are selections of literature. For the lower levels, Pathway readers are more interesting reading because they stick with a group of kids and tell stories about their lives. They're not strictly phonics, but they are very controlled and build slowly to more complex words. The workbooks are useful if you need seatwork and VERY inexpensive. Sixmeadows
We use them for copy work, reading comp. and for oral readings. I really like the set from Mott Media. Cheri

~Puddins~
My mom taught me how to read using the McGuffy Readers so they hold a warm place in my heart. I think they are a lovely set to own.
