Guest
I am needing an open and go curriculum for teaching reading this year (previously used LOE A & beginning of B), and I am considering Ordinary Parents Guide to Teaching Reading or Reading Lessons Through Literature. I like that RLTL would cover reading and spelling, but I don't see a lot of reviews for people using RLTL. If you have used either of these programs please share your thoughts! Slache
I LOVE RLTL and recommend it over anything else I've seen but if you didn't love LOE I would try OPG.
mommysanders
We have been using OPGTTR. Was perfect for my son and now going through it with my daughter. Very open and go. Occasionally you're asked to pull out some index cards and write on them so I keep those handy. And also a magnetic letter board. But otherwise we just sit down and flip to the next section and go! Guest
We have used OPGFTR as spelling too. Once you have any kind of method for reviewing spelling sounds and words down, you can use anything, really. We just used the book and a composition book. I couldn't do RLTL because of the marks. Teaching children how to read is possibly my least favorite thing about homeschooling thus far, and the marks just add more to the already tedious process. Spryte
We love OPGTTR here. Simple, quick, painless. Open and go.

Petrichor
We tried OPGTR and it didnt work out for us. DS didnt want to sit and learn and needed flashcards so he could answer from across the room. After flashcards, we moved to whiteboards. We used the Writing Road to Reading. I was able to borrow OPGTR from a library in our state via interlibrary loan, so I didn't lose money purchasing it before trying. I can't recall what RLTL is at this moment.
