Froze the chicken, but marinade didn't freeze

If it's salty, that makes sense.  That's why they salt roads in icy/snowy conditions, because salt water has a lower freezing point that water.

ETA: Which on second reading, you understand.  The reason freezing is recommended to make food last longer is that freezing temperatures are lower than refrigerated temperatures, which makes it so any bacteria are less active.  As far as I know, it is the low temperature and not the crystallization that is the important thing.

Sure, why not?

It is irrelevant whether the marinade freezes or not - everything was at freezer temperature. That the marinade has a lower freezing point than your freezer does not change the fact that both chicken and marinade were kept at freezer temp. There is nothing to "risk".
