MyLife
A nature study reference-type book that includes information on trees, flowers, small animals, birds, etc. I want something light enough to carry with us, but I do not really want individual books (one book on birds, one on flowers, etc)
SebastianCat
The National Audubon Society has field guides that fit what you are looking for. This is the one for Florida, where I live. It's very well done, with most of the common birds, trees, and animals that live here.

domestic_engineer
I was going to suggest the Kauffman regional guides, but they appear to only have the Midwest and New England area. As an alternative ... what about buying lightweight, foldout guides of the things you are interested in. For example taking this one and this one and this one, etc. They are super lightweight and laminated. ooh - look at what autocomplete helped me find on Amazon for Florida nature guides. Those individual books may work, as well.
