Bristayl
Dd will be going in for a preadministration session for her AP tests in a couple of weeks. Does anyone know if the sections on the answer sheet asking for racial/ethnic group and parental income can be left blank?
Julie of KY
On the sample sheet that I looked at the SS# is optional The ethnicity is not marked optional - no idea if it really is optional. I did not see a parental income on the sample sheet and I never give this out anyhow.
Bristayl
Thanks. I'm seeing both questions in the preadministration sample sheet for this year.
G5052
I told mine what to mark. Race isn't as much as issue for me as income. For that I gave them a number. Only I know if it was right or not  .
Bristayl
I don't know where my brain went when I said income level. Actually it is asking for parental education level. I know she's left those blank on the SAT and PSAT, but there they are clearly indicated as optional. On the AP answer sheet and instructions there is no indication that they are optional. I'd prefer she not answer, but if that would invalidate her score, I wouldn't want to do that!
Julie of KY
Well, I don't know. I still don't see a question about income. I guess I'll find out for real as we go to preadministration next week and fill them out for real. Here's what I'm look at for 2016-2017 AP tests. Am I simply missing the income section? Bristayl
No, it was my mistake. It's education level.
wapiti
Huh, it looks like reporting ethnicity and parental education level are mandatory, which surprises me: Completing the Answer Sheet The identification information that a student supplies each year becomes the basis of his or her AP record for that year . It is extremely important that students enter this information completely and correctly on their answer sheets . Chinese, Japanese, and Studio Art exams do not require the completion of a paper answer sheet — student identification information is entered electronically in student information/registration screens on exam day . See https://secure-media.collegeboard.org/digitalServices/pdf/ap/ap-exam-instructions.pdf (page 4; sample answer sheet on page 10) See also page 20: This area needs to be completed only once each year. If you have already completed it for this year, please sit quietly and wait for the rest of the group to finish.
