workingmom
Any schedules/suggestions for summer schooling a 3rd grader in order to keep up skills and work on maturity for 3rd grade. Just basics: reading, writing, math. What seems to work in terms of time of schooling per day?
Guest
Read daily, perhaps as part of the library summer reading program . Right after lunch, before swimming is good, or right before bed if the child hasn't already picked a time. Math..play card and board games, keep score in sports, cook. If fact practice is needed...play addition war, store, or add dad'change daily. Writing...put in daily life. Correspond with grandma or a friend, make lists, set up treasure hunts, keep a journal describing travel or who is at the birdfeeder. gstharr
Summer is when we accelerate. For your 3rd grader, try a 4th grade an on-line 4th grade math class. 3-4 sessions of 45 minutes each per week with goal of getting at least halfway through before school, and then slowing down some what when school starts to finish the class by x-mas. Being ahead in math, even by a single grade level, makes school so much easier..

gstharr
Suggestions for online math? I was looking into time 4 learning? We started online math in 2nd grade (4 years ago) with epgy, now Stanford gifted & talented/redbird math. without, tutor/monitor, it is reasonable BUT very pricey with the monitor. the monitor doesn't do much more than give words of encouragement at these levels. Others on this forum can probably provide more current opinion.
