Soror
Ds is finishing Apples & Pears D this year and moving onto MW as I've seen recommended. I bought level 1 as I had read that it best to start with the first level. l had thought that we would make it through just level 1 & 2 next year but looking at it I'm thinking perhaps we can get through more than that. The first 2 books look like review for him, which is fine as some practice certainly won't hurt him but I'd like to move through this a bit quicker. Although I don't want to rush him I'd love to not be doing spelling forever, he has improved greatly, I'm hoping Megawords can cement his fluency in spelling and reading larger words that he is still having trouble with. TIA!
Lori D.
We have NOT done A&P, but we DID do Megawords with a struggling/remedial speller, up through Book 8, starting in grade 6-7, and ending in grade 11-12. In addition to creating and doing an individualized spelling, we also did Megawords as the supplement, about 1 page a day 3-4x/week and would get through 1 complete Megawords workbook plus about 1/4 to 1/3 of the next workbook per year. Starting with Book 3, some of the workbooks cover more tricky concepts and we would slow down for those and take more time. You can check out the table of contents of each workbook to see what is covered, plus some sample pages, to get a feel for how your student may/may not click with the program or how long it would take to go through the program. I have also seen others on these boards who use Megawords say they go through about 1.5 workbooks a year, and a few even at the rate of 2 books a year. Soror
Thank you for your thoughts Lori, I have already bought books 1 and 2 and believe he will be able to get through them fairly quickly, thanks for the heads up about book 3. I guess we will have to play around with the pacing and see what we can get through before he needs to slow down.
Tonia
We've been covering two books a year with no troubles. First 2 books in 5th grade, 2nd two in 6th, and now dd is working through 5 & 6 this year (7th grade). DD did AAS first, I'm using this as a follow-up to solidify her spelling skills. It works well for us and she does it almost completely independently.
