Suggestions on the writing program, please

Sorry if it's sounds disjointed.

My oldest is in 3rd grade and we are doing WWE3.

I would like to start an actual writing program with him (for various reasons).  I love the idea of BW, but I know it won't get done in this house.

I need something more "structured", something that will tell me  how to teach him.  But I want him to start doing creative writing.  Is there any other kind of writing?  I don't know.  As I mentioned before, I didn't go through school system in US.

Our overall LA  - AAS 2, WWE3, just started MCT grammar island.  And I will be adding poetry memorization once I get my act together.

So, what are you thoughts?

We really enjoyed the Ready to Write Prompt Box from Lakeshore Learning Center.  Not sure if it's exactly what you want, but it does have different types of writing and includes encouraging creativity.  Might be a good starting point for you.

As the teacher, WriteShop tells you what you need to do when, which I liked. My kid was not enamored of it, but YMMV. She did not want to be told she what has to write about, and did not like the guided writing exercises. She has been resistant to any kind of writing guidance at all, aside from editing sorts of thing.

I really love this book for Narrative writing instruction. https://www.amazon.com/Most-Wonderful-Writing-Lessons-Grades/dp/0590873040

The lessons were interesting and easy for me to implement. It actually teaches the child, in a engaging way, step by step how to write a good story/narrative. I haven't found better instruction, and we carried the skills gained through future programs about narrative writing and right into adding anecdotes to expository or argumentative writing. It's one of those things I would definitely do again if I had a do-over with a younger child.

Write on!

http://www.learn4yourlife.com/homeschool-writing-curriculum.html

and

http://www.learn4yourlife.com/Write-On.html

Free TM and 2 lessons

http://www.learn4yourlife.com/support-files/writeoninstructorsguide.pdf

Even if you don't buy the curriculum, reading the TM is awesome composition advice that can be used with any curriculum.

My opinion of Write On! has only increased over the years. It plays nicely as a supplement to Writing with Ease. WWE TM, Write On! TM, and Ruth Beechick's The Three Rs are my core early composition texts.

Wow, how have I never heard of this before? It looks simple, but with laid out lessons. I'm now totally tempted to add this to what we're already doing (ELTL). :D Frankly, I don't even know exactly what ELTL covers in the upper levels. Lol. It looked doable and like more than I would know how to do on my own, but not over the top complicated. ;) Edited by vaquitita

It is hard to search online in general and for my posts here about this curriculum. I have written about it a lot over the years. It is too bad it is so hard to search. I'll try and write more later.

Try searching the forum for "write on!" making sure to use quotations marks around the title of the curriculum. More came up than I expected. Here is a decent thread on the curriculum.
