Seasider
When you're not spending money but setting it aside for a future expense, what do you call that line item in the budget? In the corporate world, it might be a holding fund or retained earnings. Seems like there's a certain term used in personal budgeting. Something from Dave Ramsey, maybe. Yes, I realize that I could call it anything I want, but since the term I want to use is floating frustratingly on the edge of my memory, it's totally distracting me this morning. Please help! bettyandbob
Sounds like escrow, but that's not right because you are holding it for yourself, not a third party.
Seasider
Escrow, that's not quite it. I always associate that with real estate transactions (though I know it's not an exclusive to RE term).
Just Kate
Sinking funds. I couldn't remember either when I first read your question and it was driving me crazy. Whew...I feel better now. :) Edited October 4, 2016 by Just Kate
Seasider
Sinking funds. I couldn't remember either when I first read your question and it was driving me crazy. Whew...I feel better now. :) That's it! Thank you! Now I am liberated to proceed with my day (and budgeting project), LOL! ETA even as I am LOLing, I am struck by irony. I was looking for this term to organize a monthly set aside for.... burial expenses. Not kidding. The term "sinking fund" is oddly appropriate.
