Valley Girl
Looking (again!) to those who have BTDT... I'm wrapping up plans for next year's 9th grade English class. The final unit I want to do is on literary nonfiction with examples of different forms. I'm thinking about including the following selections: * Swift's "A Modest Proposal" * The Boys Who Challenged Hitler by Phillip Hoose (DS is a huge WWII buff.) * A presidential speech--not sure which yet * Maybe some letters from the Founding Fathers Any other suggestions, especially if your high schooler didn't complain about having to read the piece? I should say that the usual suspects of Emerson, Thoreau, and the like will put DS completely to sleep so I'm trying to avoid work that is too abstract (not sure if that's the right word). I appreciate your help.
