Nicole M
Yes. It's a Greek themed birthday this year. My little demigod has requested a birthday cake that looks like the Acropolis. Ideas, anyone? Where might I get a wee Parthenon for the top? Lay it on me. Please. Nicole (trying not to panic) :willy_nilly:

Nicole (trying not to panic) :willy_nilly: Some wedding cakes have those pillars that look like temple columns, could you find a wedding supply place and get some columns there? Then put a 2nd piece of cake on some cardboard for the roof. Kind of trim away the outside edges of the base cake to make it more hill-like..... dangermom
You know those old-fashioned candy sticks? Like candy canes, only straight and in a bunch of flavors? I would use those for pillars and put a gingerbread roof on top. I think I'd cut the sticks in half (hot wire?) for a smaller construction; I'm guessing it would wind up with a perimeter of about 5x8, tops. You could build it on cardboard and set it on top of the cake, maybe, for stability--cover the base with frosting. I made a gingerbread Parthenon when I was about 13. I wasn't even homeschooled; I was just weird. :p Edited October 4, 2008 by dangermom
K&Rs Mom
Maybe bake it in a bowl like those princess-dress cakes, frosted in green or brown to be the hill. Would a graham cracker structure on top be lame? Or those graham-sticks or sugar-wafers to be the pillars?
Heidi @ Mt Hope
LOL! We're doing a Greek themed party for my ds this year, too. :) I hadn't thought about doing a Parthenon cake, though. We have this book which includes a small Parthenon model to build. (It looks like it might only be available used on Amazon...make sure the model is included!) Maybe I'll use ours for the cake. What a great idea!!
dangermom
Here's a KitKat Parthenon cake, but it's more funny than amazing.
Doran
...being the non-baker that I am, would find a great image of the Parthenon which I would send/take to the nearest bakery and ask them to transfer onto the top of the sheet cake they bake for me! Helpful, aren't I? :D
