Tohru
My daughter accidentally gave Higher One the wrong bank account number to deposit college loan disbursement money. It's Saturday and everything is closed. Has anyone had this happen before, what happens? Is there any way to get the money if the person that owns the account number withdrew it all? I'm pretty sure Higher One is going to say there's nothing they can do, it's her fault because it was the account number she gave them. :( Want to add that there wasn't a verification process to make sure it was the correct number or anything. The other options were to get the funds using their debit card or have a check mailed.
J-rap
Hopefully the wrong bank account number she gave them is one that doesn't even exist. But, I'm quite sure there would be a way to get the money back, if it does exist. I think most people are fair, and if someone isn't expecting a big deposit, they probably won't even notice it in the first hours after it happens. Earlier this year, someone had to wire money into my account, and I hadn't realized that my account number had changed for security reasons. (The bank changed the first part of everyone's account number.) So, the money just didn't go through. It took a couple days for everyone to realize what was going on, and they were able to just re-send it to the correct account. I'm quite sure you will not have much difficulty getting your money, either way. Maybe a few extra phone calls. Just call them first thing Monday morning.
geodob
I just had a look, where she can sign in to her Higher One account, and then 'Manage her Profile'. Where she can change her bank account number. Here's a link to their 'Easy Help' page: https://higherone.custhelp.com/app/home
