mandy.jacob
Hi All I am trying to put a few competitions together. These are team competitions and my private school is happy to have your child participate if they are homeschooled. You would simply need to sign a liability waiver. That being said, I have put the competitions below. You can simply divide the cost of the competition by the minimum number of students in the team. Happy to answer any questions. It would be easier if your student is in Southern California but it is not a pre-requisite. Best Mandy Gr Site Cost Min. Dmmetler
CML and their other exams allow homeschoolers to register individually for $20/test. That may be an option if you don't get enough people locally. I use CML for my math club, and I usually have 2-3 kids in each age group at most, but it still works. mandy.jacob
Thanks so much for this alternative. I didn't have a single response! So I guess I will be doing the private competitions. I appreciate it.
Dmmetler
The ACL competitions/exams are homeschool friendly as well. I've found that it's kind of an "if you build it...." Situation. The first year I gave the NME, I had one kid take it. Mine. Year two, we had three. Year three, I had 14. The same has happened with other competitions. Ones that have a wide age/grade range work better than ones where it's one grade/year, and the same is true for geographic restrictions. As a parent, it's kind of frustrating because usually the momentum builds about the time my DD has done it enough times that she's either aging out or just isn't interested anymore. daijobu
Thanks so much for this alternative. I didn't have a single response! So I guess I will be doing the private competitions. I appreciate it. You might consider reposting with a little more formatting to make it easier to read. In re-reading your original post, I realized I missed the computer science exam, which definitely looks interesting to me. Or since these are local events, you can try posting to your local homeschooling email lists? I've organized the MOEMS event for homeschoolers and I found they make it very easy to participate.
