LanaTron
For my 7th grader here's what I've planned as read alouds: Cat of Bubastes Tales of Ancient Egypt The Children's Homer Tales of the Greek Heroes Augustus Caesars's World We're only spending one semester on ancients, so it remains to be seen if we actually get through all those.
jetzmama
I would not use these as read-alouds for the logic stage, but they make fun 'book basket' types of reads for them to grab when they are looking for a good book. Tirzah Miriam Little Miriam of Galilee A Cry from Egypt (excellent, authored by a homeschooler, sequel pending) Mara, Daughter of the Nile is also good, but if you have a sensitive reader, there are some scenes in which the main character ( a peasant girl) is treated harshly by Egyptian nobility. Interesting weave of a peasant's life mingling with nobility which gives the reader a feel for both, and the chasm between them.
tuesdayschild
We had children at both early & late logic level while we did Ancients, here are their favourite R/As: My son especially enjoyed Shadow Hawk ~ Norton as a reader, and so he suggested I must put that one in ;) R/A 10: The Cat of the Bubastes ~ Henty (audio book) R/A 18: God King ~ Williamson R/A 10: Hittite Warrior ~ Williamson (SL G)R/A 21: Cyrus the Persian ~ Sherman A.Nagel (not for sensitive children, NEEDS editing!!)R/A 23: Within the Palace Gates …. ~ Siviter (Excellent Book! Same advise as Nagel’s book!)R/A 23: D'Aulaires Book of Greek Myths & both enjoyed Julius Caesar ~ Shakespeare which is not really 'Ancients' but seemed to fit, for us. We read a lot of other titles too, but those are the ones that made the cut.
