VANURSEPRAC
I received D12's 6th grade STAAR reading report today (Texas Standardized test) She missed 4 questions in reading, all 4 were from nonfiction reading analysis/comprehension. Can anyone make recommendations what I should do to help shore up this weakness/gap. She did not miss any on the fiction reading analysis/comprehension. Thank you! Wildiris
I've used Article of the Week for the past 4-6 months with my 6th grader. Take a look.
J&JMom
If I read your post correctly, she scored 44/48 questions correctly, which placed her in the Level III Advanced (top 20%) for the 2015 Spring Administration. IMHO, she doesn't have a weakness or 'gap'.
kiwik
You said on the cross post she doesn't read much (any?) non fiction. Maybe you could read some together and discuss? But like the PP I don't think missing 4/48 is an issue.
VANURSEPRAC
Well she does not like to read nonfiction al all. The most she will read is historic fiction mostly in World War II. Please understand I am not upset at all with her or her performance. I do understand she is a bit above Level III. I just want to help with nonfiction reading and comprehensive. By after schooling a full school year of math, her math skills improved very much and she only missed one math question. So I was wanting some middle school nonfiction articles to read together and I can ask her questions. Thank you Wildiris, I really like the pace of one article a week. We will give it a shot.
