Jenn in CA
I hear cursive helps with reversals... My girls will be 2nd grade. We are using Barton. Anyone had success with early cursive? My older kids did getty dubay and transitioned to cursive around 3rd grade. They are finally getting good with printing but are pretty slow. I'm also open to suggestions about which style of cursive is best for dyslexics.
geodob
With teaching them cursive. While you could briefly introduce them to forming each letter. The main focus should on how the letters link to each other. Where you could start with 2 letter groups: ab, ac, ad, etc. Then make use of the 46 phonemes. The way that letters link together, actually makes it difficult to reverse a letter? It would also be good to start with 'air-writing'.
OneStepAtATime
New American Cursive program with the Start Write Software. Love it. Great for preventing reversals, and helpful for teaching the kids how to read in cursive, too (they hated it when relatives would write bday cards and Christmas cards in cursive and they couldn't read it). Plus, with the software I can create my own trace and copywork for subjects they have interest in or something special they want to write in cursive. They can trace it, then practice copying it, then write it free hand, looking all nice and neat.
