Luckymama
Dd has been taking Arabic this year and loves it, so much so that she asked to attend Concordia Language Villages for their month-long high school credit program this summer. After that, she will most likely start classes at the university. She has been studying from Alif Baa and will move into al-Kitaab http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_0_7?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=al+kitaab&sprefix=Al+kita%2Caps%2C528 I would love to find something non-textbook-y for reading practice. I looked at all the links from Rosie's thread but am having a difficult time figuring out what would be suitable for a secular high school learner. And maybe suggestions for fun things (comics? games? Arabic-language puzzle books?) I could put into care packages for the summer :) She won't be allowed to have any English-language materials, which will be quite difficult for a girl who loves to read. Thanks :)
yinanyinu
I love these two blogs on Arabic children's books, maybe you will find something suitable from among the suggestions: https://readkutubkids.wordpress.com/ http://www.kelshahrkteib.blogspot.com/ An author left a comment with a link to his/her book: http://alhayatlilatfal.net/full.php?ID=2623&fb_source=message And even more interesting, but more generally about Arabic literature, with a few posts on children's books: http://arablit.org/ This last is my favourite source for Arabic children's literature. Unfortunately, actually getting the books can be a challenge, but I'm up for it. Good luck.
madteaparty
Good luck. Unfortunately, actually getting the books can be a challenge, but I'm up for it. Such a challenge. I thought navigating amazon.ca and waiting for a yearly Paris trip in order to obtain French books was a hardship. Try ordering books in Arabic, which the parent does not understand but the child loves. Wow.
yinanyinu
Amazon.com is surprisingly good for Arabic kidslit by famous authors like Taghreed Najjar. From her website I found two links to American booksellers I hadn't heard of, who carry her books, with some interesting choices. One is Paddington Bear in Arabic! Aramedia IBC As for French books, I prefer amazon.fr. There is a much greater selection, of course, and shipping isn't bad. Once you find a title you like, try searching on Amazon.com for it. I've sometimes found the prices to be lower.
roanna
BBC and CNN can both be read in Arabic. If your daughter has gotten that far in her studies I would say try it. Just small articles of interest to begin with. Whatever words she comes across she can look up.

Magic Tree House! Eric Carle and Disney movie storybooks for nostalgia!) Now to find comics or graphic novels or puzzle books in Arabic! I cannot send her anything in English language when she'll be at camp.
yinanyinu
Have you tried http://www.bestarabic.com? They have Tintin, Asterix and Lucky Luke in Arabic. You can get the complete Arabic Tintin in PDF for a pittance! Fatima Sharafeddine has a good YA book called Faten. It's still aspirational for DC though. Lebanon Publishers has Manga Shakespeare and Sherlock Holmes Graphic Novels in Arabic. Look under Readers. I finally found "The99" in Arabic, although it's only an electronic copy. You can try the free copy to see whether your DD would like it.

Luckymama
Follow-up: I ordered some books from http://www.alkitab.com/index.html(she chose two Magic Tree House books ). The books arrived still shrink-wrapped. I received emails at every step of the transaction. I will definitely ordered from them again!
