Oh, no! I think it looks great, but did it really say that saying, "it wasn't me" is bad grammar?

And if it is bad grammar - why didn't I know it was bad grammar?

"I" is nominative, the subject case.

"Me" is accusative, the direct object case.

The verb "to be" is like an equals sign. A predicate nominative that follows the verb "to be" must agree with the subject.

"It is I" is correct because "I" is nominative, the subject case. "It is me" is not correct because "me" is accusative, the direct object case.

Hope this helps.

The easiest trick to see if it's correct is to switch the sentence around to read "Me was not it." It becomes instantly apparent that the word "I" is needed instead. Our written grammar is influenced so strongly by our spoken grammar, and many of us have learned incorrectly from our parents or others. Double negatives were commonplace in our family when I was young. eeek!
