  7. Here's a good explanation from the Discovery Channel website. Apatosaurus: The Dinosaur Formerly Known as Brontosaurus I fondly remember when the brontosaurus was a dinosaur, when Pluto was a planet, and when Saturday morning meant "Schoolhouse Rock." My dd says I'm just old. ;)
  8. Oh Jennefer...I'm so sorry to hear this. I'll be thinking of you & your beautiful family. :grouphug:
  9. Native Texan here...as a child we only had an *outdoor* dog. She came in the house occasionally to get a treat, but other than that she was outside all the time. My mom crocheted a sweater for her to wear in the winter if it was too cold. She was very firm in her belief that dogs don't live in the house...until I moved out after college. Then she & my stepdad got a black lab pup who (gasp) became an INDOOR dog. I guess she needed another "child" to fill her empty nest! Anyway...short story long...that was the sweetest dog I'd ever met & he was largely the reason that my dh & I decided on a lab pup ourselves 10+ years ago. Best dog ever! Then we added a rescue to the mix 4+ years ago. Dog #2 has a few "issues" (i.e., separation anxiety), so when we leave the house she goes into "her room" (kennel). Dog #1 has free range of the entire house all the time. Both dogs sleep in our bedroom. Dog #1 has a dog bed in our room, but if it's really cold she likes to get on the bed with us. Dog #2 sleeps under the covers with her head on the pillow. :D
  10. ...is a landscape scrapbook album. I use this size quite a bit for digital scrapbooking. The SEI Preservation Series would probably be your most affordable choice. I found some on sale at scrapbook.com for $6.39. You can also check your local Joann's or Michaels to see what they have in store. HTH!
  11. I was searching the other day for a *free* outline map of the U.S. to print out for our election study. This site had just what I needed...plus a lot more! :D Thanks for sharing!!!
  12. ...that gives some great explanations & examples. The Loop Schedule BTW...I think I've been loop scheduling all along...and didn't even know it!!! :D It works great at our house. HTH!
  13. My almost 4yo dd is an eager beaver in the area of learning to read. What I have found that has helped tremendously is the Leap Frog Fridge Phonics set. We have both upper-case & lower-case letters. It ties in nicely with the SWR methodology--which I use very loosely. One of her favorite activities is to sound out words (with my help, when needed) and spell them on the fridge while I'm cooking dinner, etc. We have been doing this for several months, and she now is able to sound out most 3-letter words that she sees in books or that she hears. We are also working slowly thru the Bob books. Since she is so young, I haven't used a "formal" learn-to-read curriculum. Right now I'm just trying to keep it FUN!

  20. Thanks for sharing! I love all the old books you can find on Google Books. This one looks to be quite entertaining. Can't wait to read through it with 3rd grade dd!
  21. Yes...you can definitely save the files for later use. I even use older files as "templates" once I get my copywork format set up the way I want it. StartWrite has been well worth the $$ I spent. :D
