michaeljenn
I was going to start reading Across Five Aprils, but I have read mixed reviews for this book:( PLEASE give me some recommendations for a book to read for the Civil War... I am wanting historical fiction! Thanks, Jennifer
mountains27
I haven't read any of these yet but saw this series at my local book shop and thought it looked good. I'll probably give it a try when we get to that point in our history. http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/i-survived-the-battle-of-gettysburg-1863-lauren-tarshis/1113942446?cm_mmc=google+product+search-_-q000000633-_-9780545459365pla-_-book_under5-_-q000000633-_-9780545459365&ean=9780545459365&isbn=9780545459365&kpid=9780545459365&r=

Miss Tick
We liked Bull Run, by Paul Fleischman. It is a series of short vignettes from fictional people on both sides of the war. Homer P. Figg is set in the civil war, but was heavier on story than historical elements.
Farrar
We liked Bull Run, by Paul Fleischman. It is a series of short vignettes from fictional people on both sides of the war. Homer P. Figg is set in the civil war, but was heavier on story than historical elements. Those are exactly the two we liked best. Look Homeward, Hannalee and Shades of Gray are two others I've read that are okay. I'm not a fan of Across Five Aprils myself.
kirstenhill
I read "Rifles for Watie" by Harold Keith aloud to my 9 year old daughter last year and she enjoyed it. I picked that over Across Five Aprils.
kiana
Rifles for Watie is an amazing book and it's the book that turned my 9yo brother who was a non-reader into an avid reader. I recommend it very highly.
