Reading programs

What's your favorite reading program? Mine is definitely just "reading", but I thought about getting a specific curriculum for next year. Specifically about third grade, but also looking for something for a kindergartner, maybe. Anyone like Pathway Readers? Thank you so much!

I am using the 4th and 6th grade level. I never felt the need with my oldest but middle two just don't do as well with comprehension. I have found it to be good at vocabulary, comprehension and assessing whether they "get the meaning" or not.

We do lots of read-alouds, independent reading daily but this just helps me solidify that they are truly moving up in understanding.

We use Pathway readers for grades 1&2.Any child who is learning to read could start with the grade 1 pre-primer.After grade 2 the stories in the books shift from being about one family to a variety of other stories. My oldest child lost interest in the books after that although we did use them for grade 4 for reading comprehension.I like Mosdos Press for grade 5-tons of reading comprehension, asks lots of literal questions as well.It is expensive though. We are trying Lightning Lit grade 7 now for my 6th grader.I like it but I do wonder if dd might not have gotten more out of it if she had waited until next year to try it since she is having some difficulty with the writing assignments.

In retrospect, and planning ahead for my youngest, my thoughts are to use Pathway readers through grade 3,Mosdos Press for grades 4-6 (they should be coming out with the 4th grade book in 2008) and then switch to LL.We are required to do standardized testing and reading comprehension is a big part of it so using curriculum like this just reassures me that we are covering the bases.

We love the Pathway Readers here. My boys want to read them all the time! We use the workbooks, too. But, we only do the side that involves the actual story. The other side is usually vocabulary, spelling, or something else. But, they get enough of that from their Language Arts. I've heard some people just use the book and not the workbook. Either way, the stories are great. Good values. Good morals.
