mims
TeenCoder series. Self taught and my son loved it. He now spend hours coding on his own and investigating new things so I take that as success.
MomsintheGarden
Ditto Teen Coder. Ds did the Java course and liked it so much he finished it early for fun. It was enough to get him off and running to do other things with the language. He's pretty motivated to program, so ymmv.

TheApprentice
My son used Art of Problem Solving's Intro. to Python. They also have an intermediate Python and a JAVA course. Ds will be taking JAVA this fall. He really enjoyed the Python course and learned quite a bit. After taking that course, he enrolled in an introductory course of JAVA at the community college and got an A.
