Help me understand my health insurance

Recommended Posts

I'm so confused.

This is what it says on my insurance card:

Individual In-Network Deductible $500

Family In-Network Deductible $1500

Individual In-Network Out-of-Pocket limit $2500

Family Out-of-Pocket limit $5000

So, I had to have a $3000 procedure in June. Will I have to pay $500 or $2500???

Well, let's say for giggles sake that they pay 80% of the procedure and you pay 20%. That's your coverage.

If you haven't met your deductible you would pay the first 500

then the insurance would pay 3000 x80% minus the 500 so 1900

Then you would have to pay your 20% so 600

so you would have to pay 500 deductible plus 600 (the 20%) = 1100

Those numbers are for giggles. I don't know the specifics of your policy.
