Country Girl
Dd's violin teacher has asked us to buy a new scale book for dd while we are back in the US for a few weeks. She currently is using a very basic one that we found here in China, but her teacher wants one with more scales. I'm looking online, but I'm overwhelmed by the choices! And I can't ask her teacher, because she is traveling right now. Does anyone have a suggestion for a good, beginning scale book? Dd is currently in the Suzuki book 2 if that helps to give a better idea of where she is at. Thanks!

Country Girl
Thanks. I saw the Fleisch book but wasn't quite sure what level it was at. I guess we will hold off on that one for now.
Pegs
In Australia, the Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) publish a "technical workbook" for each instrument, which includes graded scales, arpeggios, and other technical exercises. You get scales, etc. for each grade, from preliminary to eighth grade, all in one book. The ABRSM examine internationally, and also publish repertoire and syllabuses, but I'm not sure whether you can purchase the technical work in print. Susan in TN
With my younger students I use Elementary Scales and Bowings by Whistler and Hummel. 1 octave scales and arpeggios in several different rhythms and bowings. All in 1st position, C, G, D, A, F, Bb, Eb major, and chromatic scales. No minor scales.
