musicianmom
If your student moved to Saxon math after completing Singapore 5B, into which level of Saxon did they move?
Lori D.
Saxon and Singapore are SO different in style, and they do have a different scope and sequence, that your best bet would be to take the Saxon placement test. I also suggest looking at the table of contents for both Saxon 65 and Saxon 78 to see how many of the topics were covered in Singapore 4A/B and 5A/B -- if you see a lot of gaps, then that might be an indicator as to the level of Saxon to start with. Also, take into consideration how well/not well your student did with Singapore in case a slight "backing up" in Saxon might be beneficial -- which would also give your student a chance to get used to the very different approach to math with topics s/he already knows. Good luck! Warmly, Lori D.
kiana
I've heard of people placing anywhere from 65 to alg 1 depending on how well the Singapore was understood -- you really need to take the placement test.
Punks in Ontario
I agree with using the placement tests. My guy placed in 8/7 which he's handling very well. If your dd places lower please use that level. The only issue he has is that he cannot often complete a full lesson with 30 questions in a single day. I have him spend an hour on math then move on. musicianmom
Yes, I'll definitely use the placement test, just wondering where others had ended up.
