bnwhitaker
What would you add to IEW's writing curriculum through out the school years to make sure they have an good writing ability?
Ellie
I wouldn't think you'd need to add anything. Of course, you would be requiring the dc to write papers for other subjects, especially history and literature.
5LittleMonkeys
I would add some Killgallon for style work.
robsiew
Honestly, I'm not planning to write anything. I want to prepare my children for college writing and I think IEW does a fabulous job at that. My children have little interest in writing outside of what they HAVE to so I'm not trying to develop journalists or novel writers at this point! Not sure they would need more even if they were.... Mrs Twain
For elementary, I have added paragraph writing instruction, friendly letter writing, and simple research paragraphs/reports. I can't say that I have a favorite, but this year for my 3rd grader I am using an OOP Composition: Models and Exercises (first course) by Wariner for teaching paragraphs. For my 5th grader, I love love love School Composition for use in Higher Grammar Classes (Maxwell, 1900). That is teaching him more about narration and description. IEW has been our core writing program from 2nd or 3rd grade forward, though.
