Kathryn
We just finished a month-long unit on Shakespeare. DS decided that Hamlet is his favorite and wants to watch a feature-length movie of it. He's watched all of the Animated Tales, but wants more. Is there a particular version I should look for or avoid for an 8yo (who is not particularly sensitive)?
Kathryn
My library has six choices. Four star these guys: Laurence Olivier Mel Gibson Kenneth Branagh David Tennant And two others: One says 1980 BBC Television production with Patrick Stewart and one says "Richard Burton's Hamlet," Image Entertainment, 1995. butterflymommy
The Mel Gibson one has a weird kissing scene between his mother and him. Other than that I remember it being fairly tame and well done.
Dana
Don't do the Gibson one.

Dana
The Mel Gibson one has a weird kissing scene between his mother and him. Other than that I remember it being fairly tame and well done. It's the bedroom scene with Hamlet and Gertrude. My recollection is that he's on top of her, not just kissing. That's why I'd say not for an 8 yo.
