JaneNickerson
Our dc have gathered many rocks, shells, feathers, butterflies, insects, dried flowers, etc. I was wondering how others saved/displayed their collections/specimens.
snickelfritz
when I taught school, was plastic divider boxes that are for organizing fishing equipment. They are very inexpensive (why I used them for school) and they usually have dividers that can be moved around to make various sizes. They have snap lids, which means the collections can be closed off. I usually went to Wal-Mart to the sporting goods section and picked out a variety of sizes. I actually need to go get some for my kiddos to use. They would love having a "permanent" place to put their goodies.

Ferdie
In our previous home we had a large, pewter bowl on our living room table and put our rocks, seeds, feathers and twigs in the bowl.
Sahamamama
1. Take pictures (of larger items), then place the photos in an album or nature study journal, along with a written description of the item, what it is, where you found it, etc. 2. Place smaller items in a box like this (with labels): http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&productId=100023878&N=10000003+90401+525791 OR this: http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&productId=100005768&N=10000003+90401+525791 OR this: http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&productId=100375899&N=10000003+90401+525791 3. Place leaves, small flowers, feathers, etc. in a press: http://www.amazon.com/S-Worldwide-Flower-Press/dp/B000N93TRE/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_k2a_2_txt?pf_rd_p=304485601&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-2&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=0723244359&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=08SHQMBR9ED5QQNHAR44 Hope this helps! I am looking forward to seeing more ideas from others, since my daughter's "nature collection" has a tendency to take over sections of our house, too!
