Trim Healthy Mamma Help..

I've been debating for a while purchasing the book but it was going to be $50 for me & my location all up. Then I spotted that they had an ebook in pdf format which I sprung the $20 for so that i could print out the recipes & bind them up in a notebook.

Here's the thing though. I MUST place a grocery order today or tomorrow so we can restock our cupboards before the men-folk within my home revolt. I've only just acquired the book & haven't had time to read LOTS of it yet. As in I've read the intro & chapter 1, I've peeked at other spots.

If you've read the book and/or use the ideas in the book is there a specific section I can skip to & read just so I can decide if I need anything out of the ordinary for my grocery list? I noticed lots of chatter on the FB group about almond flour, I have that on hand all the time anyway as I can't have wheat. I saw peanut flour mentioned {defatted}, but I'm not sure I can obtain that locally & ordering things with nut in them on an island might be out.

I can't do any dairy milk or eggs due to allergies, but if there's something else I'd like to know so that I can actually get started. I don't know how much I'll get to read this weekend as we need to make a trip into the city, but that's a place where I might be lucky to find some of the more "out there" type items, such as defatted peanut flour. ;)

I just started this diet (on Monday, as a matter of fact!), and I put in an order at Amazon for Now Foods Glucomannan 100% Pure Powder (it should arrive tomorrow). Otherwise, to get started, I bought some almond flour and ground flax seed. You might want to have some good cocoa powder on hand, as I only have Hershey's and I will definitely replace it with something a little better when I get through it. I also bought unsweetened almond milk, although I haven't used it yet. I need the Glucomannan first and then I will use the almond milk to make a smoothie. I have been using cream cheese and those laughing cow cheese wedges (I made the creamless creamy veggies from the book and they were oh. so. good!!). Oh, you will also want to have some good coconut oil and stevia.

I am only on day three, so still trying to get the hang of things. If anyone would like to talk off-board to try to support one another, let me know. I need all the support I can get!!!

Thanks.

I am part of that group on FB. I guess I need to read that page, wowser it's a lot of info!

I thought I read that you could use glucomannan or xanthum gum? I'm not worried about an appetite suppressant, is that the only purpose of the glucomannan? Just curious.

Thanks for the links to Gwen's nest, I haven't been there. Off to peek..

And I'm open for support off boards if you want. :)

I think the glucomannan is used for thickening. I see it in pudding, smoothie, and other dessert recipes. If you do get it, make sure you get the powder and not the capsules. Mine should arrive tomorrow, so I can give a better assessment of it.

I will PM you about off-board support. I really think I will like this way of eating, but it is a bit difficult to get started.
