Blessed Mommy
A little background information: I have used First Language Lessons 1-4, along with Writing With Ease 1-4 up until this point. However, next school year, my daughter will need the next level. Unfortunately, there is no FLL 5, but there is Writing With Skill for grade 5. So, per TWTM, I will be using Rod & Staff 5 Language Arts. My question is, for those of you who have experience with Rod & Staff's LA curriculum, do I need to add Writing With Skill? I have looked at the table of contents in R&S's book, and I do see that there are SOME writing assignments. I just don't know if it's enough, but at the same time, I don't want to overwhelm my daughter. Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! Ellie
If you are using R&S's English text, no, you don't need to supplement with anything for writing. SWB says it's enough, BTW. :-) *All* of the writing counts as writing, including any grammar lessons where the children have to write sentences and correct them, and the poetry, and the outlining, and so on. momtofive
R&S English is grammar AND writing all in one neat package! :) And it's VERY thorough. I learned so much teaching my son!
abrightmom
I wouldn't miss Writing with Skill for the world! Use R&S for the grammar, skip the composition, and look to SWB for writing instruction. ;)
~Anna~
We are using R&S for writing, because I didn't want to overwhelm my DD. I am looking into adding something else for next year. But, the writing seems pretty solid in R&S, so you don't need to add anything if you don't want to.
