1bassoon
My son received info about QuestBridge in the mail today. We do have a very low income, so we qualify on that account. However, he's not done AP courses, etc. He's got very good grades (mostly all A's) and his latest ACT was a 28 - waiting on the last result to see if he broke 30. Is it worth the time and effort? I'm tempted to have him apply. He's been thinking of just going to school close to home, but if he could access a good scholarship, it would be worth looking into. Anyone? readwithem
I would definitely follow through with it. We didn't qualify but my dd's best friends at college are Questies. One huge advantage is they found out whether they were accepted even before the Early Decision applicants. I believe the applicant "ranks" the participating schools, with the understanding that if they "match" with any of the schools they select, they will attend. My dd's school has lots of fun things for Questies, pizza parties and free tickets to social events, etc. http://www.questscholarsnetwork.org
Brenda in MA
I don't know about QB personally, but there is a forum for it on College Confidential that seems to have a lot of information. It's a sub-forum under the one called Financial Aid. HTH, Brenda
Barbara H
One good thing with Questbridge is that completing the application will get your student a jump start on getting started with college essays and that's always a positive thing. Typically the students I see that have been successful with Questbridge have both good academic profiles and have compelling life stories (they have overcome some odds to be there). This statistical profile of Quest Bridge Finalists may be helpful to you.
Caroline
I know a few Questbridge Scholars. I will warn you that the teacher reference part is long and involved. Please give the people completing your references some lead time. Another one you might look into is the Gates Millenium Scholarship.
