lanabug
I just had my annual physical and in addition to the regular fasting blood sugar test, my dr. had the lab do an A1C. It came back slightly elevated, at a 5.8. I definitely indulged in several sweet treats over Christmas, so I'm wondering how much this could have influenced the A1C test? (I have a feeling that if I'd done the test before the holidays it would have come back normal.) My FBS has always been fine, but I do have a family history of diabetes and I am overweight. I've already started cutting out carbs and sugar, now I just need to get on an exercise plan! Lana
melmichigan
A1C is a weighted test covering the last three months, weighted toward the most recent levels, so yes your indulgence over the holiday could impact it, just as extremely high sugars the day before the test can.
