PentecostalMom Posted December 31, 2012 Share Posted December 31, 2012 When I was pregnant with my last ds, I lost all hearing in one ear. It was random and there was no reason for it. I tried available treatments that would not harm him, to no avail. I have profound hearing loss with no chance of recovery and was told by two hearing specialists that there is very little chance a hearing aid of any type would benefit me at all because the loss is so severe. Fast forward to now. I am trying to get a part time job but am having a bit of a hassle because of the loss. It is made it difficult for me to understand when some people are speaking and of course I can only use one ear for anything. I don't necessarily want financial compensation, but would like to know of any resources to help with job training or anything of the like. I have been looking online but am unable to find anything. I have a small amount of hearing loss (and have, but only use in spurts, hearing aids). It has definitely gotten worse but we don't have insurance right now to get rechecked and have my hearing aids adjusted. I find it so annoying. I'm sure I'd find it more so in your situation. maize Posted December 31, 2012 Share Posted December 31, 2012 Is your hearing normal in the other ear? If you have even mild hearing loss in your good ear I would look into getting a hearing aid--you need to maximize your remaining hearing ability. My husband has profound hearing loss in one ear and moderate hearing loss in the other, he wears a hearing aid in his good ear. He functions pretty normally at work and socially, although there are times when it is obvious he has mis-heard something. He has learned to turn his good ear towards anyone he is trying to listen too--for example, if we are walking he always walks on my left side so his right ear (good ear) is towards me.
