Resources for a Calif. hser beginning in high school?

A friend in California is considering homeschooling for the first time. Her son will be in 9th grade in the fall. I've hsed for so long--I honestly have no concept of what it would be like to start off with an older child, and in CA, no less!

 

What resources can I direct her toward? She'd be a Christian hser, if that makes any difference.
