amo_mea_filiis.
In a child? We had tacos for dinner and ds has something stuck in his esophagus. Does this need to be seen if it doesn't resolve in X time? What is X time?
Parrothead
Can he eat something else and try to move the stuck stuff along?
melissad2
If it is truly food stuck there and it won't go up or down then yes he needs to be seen. We admit patients quite often with this and they have to have and endoscopy to get it out.
amo_mea_filiis.
He's been drinking water and just decided to have bread. I doubt he can make himself puke. But he keeps coughing on purpose thinking it'll help.
Parrothead
It may not be anything more than an irritation. Unfortunately there isn't any way to tell the difference. Except waiting for the irritation to go away - possibly even over night. Can you call the nurse hotline and ask how long you should wait? amo_mea_filiis.
I'm waiting for the dr to call back. No after hours nurses, just dr.
amo_mea_filiis.
Dr said theres no way he could have eaten bread without it pulling it down, or the bread getting stuck too. He should be good. If there's too much irritation tomorrow, I'll take him in. Thank you guys!
ktgrok
Sounds like an esophogeal spasm. Try a hot shower, it helps things relax. And an antacid.I find I get this if I have very hot or very cold food/drink, especially if i have them both right after each other.
