Kathleen in VA
This is a condominium community in a tower that moves constantly. Hard to explain. Here is an article: http://www.dynamicarchitecture.net/dubai.html'>http://www.dynamicarchitecture.net/dubai.html'>http://www.dynamicarchitecture.net/dubai.html'>http://www.dynamicarchitecture.net/dubai.html Here is a youtube video: http://www.dynamicarchitecture.net/dubai.html My question is why would anyone want to live in a building that moves all the time? Wouldn't it feel, well, unsettling? Also, wouldn't you feel rather like a target??? Just wondering.
Stacia
Wow. That's neat. Thanks for sharing the link. I would think (hope) it moves slowly. I guess it would give you the option to have different views out your windows all the time. Which is pretty neat. If it's done slowly enough, I'm not sure you'd feel the movement (or not much). That said, I don't think I'd want to live in a moving building. But, it might be fun to visit. :001_smile:
Tarheel Heather
I wonder if Kate in Arabia has been there.
percytruffle
I have heard of it. It's very cool! The changing view out your window would be a big selling point I would think. I ate in a restaurant once that rotated. It was the top floor of a sky scraper. You couldn't feel the movement while you were in it. The only problem was that the middle didn't turn with the rest of it so the bathroom (which was in the middle) kept eluding me!
Kathleen in VA
I wonder if Kate in Arabia has been there. I wondered that, too, after I posted the thread. I knew Dubai was in the Middle East somewhere but didn't realize until I looked into more that it is actually in UAE. I definitely want her take on this - especially after it is built! BTW, the video is about 7 minutes long and it shows how the construction process is more efficient than the norm now. I'm just not sure I could trust the thing to keep from toppling down - moving all the time and all - it just looks scary to me. Of course, some folks in Edison's time thought electricity was from the devil so maybe I'm just an old fogey.:)
Michelle T
Wouldn't the front door to the lobby also be moving all the time? So how the heck do you get inside? Jump in quickly? It looks very interesting, but I don't think I would want to be moving all the time. And at $3,000 per square foot, it's kind of beyond my budget! :) MIchelle T

Just find something that everyone in the world can't live without - say something they need 10 gallons (give or take a gallon) of everyday - and then charge about $5 a gallon for it. They you'd be sitting pretty;).

Can you imagine if this apt. tower is the same set-up? If you go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, you might not find your way there easily, nor return easily to your room! LOL. Michelle T
It kind of reminds me of the moving staircases in Hogwarts. Michelle T
lighthouseacademy
The space needle does this too- and the center of the restaurant stands still- so if you come out of the bathroom you have to find your table... I barely noticed when I was facing the direction of the turn, but if I was facing the opposite of the turn, I could feel it and it made me feel sick. Hopefully the elevators, not the bathrooms, are in the non-rotating core.
