Jen in NY
limit as possible..... I don't know if this is a good strategy or not, but I would guess they read a LOT of stuff everyday. I think I ended up between 2300-2400 characters, which I will upload.
Brenda in MA
My son applied in 2008-9, and there were no limits for the lengths of the student essay and the counselor letter. I thought I read some where that the Common App has limited the student's essay to 500 words now, which I think is too short. Is there now a hard limit on the counselor letter, too, or is the 2000 words thing a recommendation? Brenda
dirty ethel rackham
Mine was over 800 words, which ended up over 4100 characters. I did mine as a word document and uploaded it. I don't remember if I had to convert it to .pdf first.
Candid
One thing to consider is the amount of time admits spend reading an applications I've heard mostly 10 -15 minutes at most. What do you want to shine forth in that time? Also, admits are very leery of things that parents can control. In a traditional setting they like teacher recommends better than counselor letters for the reason that they believe teachers will be more honest. So I would have a care not to use my time up on the wrong thing.
