Talk to me about how to use Veritas Press

VP integrates the biblical history events into the OTAE and NTGR cards, so you don't have to do anything to make that happen. What some people do is pull those cards out in order to combine OTAE and NTGR into one year. If that's what you want to do, there are schedules for it in the files of the VP_Elementary yahoo group. Just bop over, join, and you'll find them.

So yes, VP does the integration of Biblical and secular history already. You're not going to have to do anything to make that happen. And you can chose whether you want to teach it yourself or use their AMAZING self-paced online classes. I've done it both ways, and I can tell you the online classes are AWESOME. They're doing a free trial this month, so you could bop over and sign your kids up. Two weeks for each kid, an awesome deal. :)

What is the cost of their self-paced history courses? Thanks!

Then why do they have a separate Bible curriculum like the Genesis Through Joshua and all of the others? What is the use of using their Bible if the Bible is already integrated in the history portion? YKWIM???

There are Bible stories in both the history and Bible programs, so at first it might look like overkill, but they serve different purposes. The Bible stories in the history program serve the purpose of integration. They want the kids to see how Bible stories they are already familiar with fit into extra-biblical history. The purpose is not an in depth Bible study, that's what the Bible program is for. It has many more stories in much more detail, and studies overarching themes in the Bible. For example, the history program will tell you that Moses went to Mount Sinai and where that fits in compared to, say, Hammurabi, but only the Bible program is going to go into the details of the wilderness wanderings. The history program alone will give you the integration, you really don't need the Veritas Bible, you could use something else, but it's a good program.

I use the VP history, on my own. I buy the "homeschool kit" which includes the cards, the song, and the TE as a pdf file on a disk or an actual book. Then I buy the "literature kit" and most of the "priority one resources." Most of the latter are generally on our shelves already; we've been doing this awhile. Then any leftover $ I get goes to the extra books they list. In our heavy library days I'd run the extra book list across the library's website before deciding which ones to buy.

I don't use the Scholars lesson plans, or the Self Paced course, though I've heard both are fabulous.

As a previous poster said, the Bible course is an in depth Bible study. The history course blends the major Bible stories into world history chronologically. Some cards are duplicated in both. If you just want ancient history with Bible worked into it, just get the history. If you want Bible as a separate subject, you'll need the Bible set, too. I wouldn't worry about lining them up though. Give Bible it's own slot in your day, and let the coincidences fall where they may.

Pulling up Rainbow.... this is the homeschool kit (cards, songs, TE), and this one has exactly the same materials, just with the TE in a pdf file on the disk. Pick which one you want. I didn't see the lit kits or priority one stuff in a sets.

The books VP puts in their lit kit will have coordinated extras in the TE. The priority 1 resources are the "spines" you'll use throughout the year. Some will be geared to your older DC, and some more to the younger. For all those extra books VP lists (starts here), here's a free pdf list of the books that will actually be referenced on the backs of the cards, and how often they're used. VP's paper catalog (free) will have a small number under those extras; that number tells you which history card it best lines up with. I think they have the paper catalog viewable on their website now, but it's being sluggish this morning. (Busiest season for curricula companies..)

I usually order the books from the second paragraph above at used sites like Amazon Markpetplace, Half Price Books, and such. Though this time of year it may be cheaper to just grab them at Rainbow with free shipping.
