scrappyhappymama
What's with the cyclists riding along the shore during all the Olympic watercraft events? I saw them in the rowing, canoeing, and kayaking races. Do they serve some official purpose or is it a tradition thing? I presume they are there in some official capacity because they were all riding the same style bike. I tried googling twice, but Google apparently believes I really want to know about cycling clubs along the shores of rivers or the Olympic cycling events. I am tired of trying to word it properly for Google & hoping someone here will know. Edited August 13, 2012 by scrappyhappymama
Reflections
I think I may have found something for you. It is what I thought, it is coaches on those bikes. And for some reason, - I don't know if you know - they call this kind of rowing "crew". It took me *forever* in high school to get what people meant when they said they were on "crew". http://www.mysask.com/portal/site/main/template.MAXIMIZE/?javax.portlet.tpst=09b4d507b177faaab77c67eb50315ae8_ws_MX&javax.portlet.prp_09b4d507b177faaab77c67eb50315ae8_viewID=story&javax.portlet.prp_09b4d507b177faaab77c67eb50315ae8_topic_display_name=Olympics%20News&javax.portlet.prp_09b4d507b177faaab77c67eb50315ae8_topic_name=Olympics&javax.portlet.prp_09b4d507b177faaab77c67eb50315ae8_news_item_id_key=19607363&javax.portlet.begCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken&javax.portlet.endCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken HTH
staceyobu
I am glad you asked this! I've been wondering the same thing. I wondered if they were just spectators, but coaches makes sense!
three4me
Yep, they're coaches (mostly). I was watching some sort of rowing last week and the commentator said they were coaches :)

Stina2000
I wondered the same and just assumed that it was either coaches or some hard-core fans ;)
