cathmom
My rising 9th grader has always had a hate relationship with math (no love, just hate! :D). Lately she has become more interested in science and knows that she needs more math to study science. I recently realized that she probably needs to see the big picture first (and when I asked her about it, she wholeheartedly agreed!) but most math programs start with the details and steps. I think she needs a math program that shows what you could do with the math and then teaches you how to get there. Is there anything like this? TIA! In The Great White North
Have you used these? I looked through the samples and couldn't find where they actually taught the math. It seems like the whole book just presented issues for them to model/solve/describe, without ever giving them to tools to do so. Am I missing something? Or is the teacher supposed to come up with that independently? Or do they have to buy all the ancillary materials? Do you use them with another textbook? Embassy
It is my understanding that AOPS is whole to parts.
dbmamaz
i was thinking AoPS too . . .not sure, though, as i havent had my hands on one yet. but my understanding is they present a problem and help lead you to figure out how to solve it how far has she gotten in math?
