Valens permitted the Visigoths into the Roman empire as refugees who had been overcome by the Huns. They came across the Danube in droves and this was a huge factor in the breakdown of the Roman Empire. I think "Valens and the Visigoths" has a Led Zeppelin "Immigrant Song" kind of ring to it. The hammer of the gods Will drive our ships to new lands, To fight the horde, singing and crying: Valhalla, I am coming! On we sweep with threshing oar, Our only goal will be the western shore...ah!
