~Amanda~
I'm intrigued, but I'm also wary. I'd like to see a bit more about what kind of activities there are to do with the books, and maybe a bit more information. I don't know if I'm just not looking in the right place, or its really that hard to find out more about it without actually purchasing it. Any help at all is appreciated!! Susie in MS
There are very, VERY limited samples at FIAR at Rainbow. I will take a random book and give you an idea of what is covered in it: A Pair of Red Clogs ~Japan ~Japanese culture ~good steward and honesty ~reminiscing ~vocab ~color pencil techniques that copy shading and cross hatching in the book ~unity of theme ~action and expression of figures ~counting ~playing store ~weather Some books have more and some have less. Many have much more language arts like contrast and compare, alliteration, etc. There is a s&s posted somewhere. If find it I will post it. skeeterbug
Not a sampling of the actual pages, but a blog that does a wonderful job summarizing their adventures with BFIAR/FIAR. With plenty of pictures! http://delightfullearning.blogspot.com At the top you'll see her links for each book they've rowed. Her posts are really detailed but beware they might just make you fall in love with FIAR.
SFM
I got FIAR and BFIAR and thought wow, I am not sure I will use this, used it in transition. I moved to Sonlight with my P4/5 and then I thought WOW, I miss BFIAR! We love it here and, yes, go visit delightfullearning.blogspot.com, she has a wealth of knowledge and great know how. It's a fun program. My girls love it!
Susie in MS
I tried to find the s&s but I forgot the only complete on online is for vol 4. In vol 1 there are 7 pages in the master index that tells what topics are covered. I will give you a very abridged idea of what is there. Social Studies and Geography: various countries/cultures and states oceans, various rivers, etc (if you get the disk -or use the cut out disk in the book- you can place these on your map when these various places are covered) Social Studies Relationships: ancestors anger death elderly envy family relationships hospitality jealousy mothering orphans respect etc History: Louis Bleriot Civil War Communism Flags Italian and French words Gulf War Marco Polo Revolutionary War Steam heat Thanksgiving WW1 and 2 etc Language Arts: Book awards Denouement Titles Drama Elements of a Story 1st person Legend Literary Devices Pantomime Punctuation etc Art: Architecture Balance Charcoal Speed Humor Facial expression Layout Light Pastels Shadow Unity View point etc Math (applied and only supplemental unless you have a K-er) Counting fractions grouping hours money roman numerals weeks of month etc Science: Animal Kingdom Bananas Biome Buoyancy Cinnamon Clouds Cosmonauts Deserts Evaporation Freezing point some anatomy simple machines mountains ocean life chemical reaction rock formation seasons starch survival and safety tides tundra wheat etc This is only a sampling and only for vol 1. The amount of coverage on each topic in the manual is presented in a way that is suitable for a child 2nd grade and under. Any topic that proves interesting to your or your child may be expanded upon with you-tubes, library books (lets read and find out are great), videos, etc. But using only the manual is plenty sufficient.
