spaceman
I'm looking for a book, children's encyclopedia, or book series that will chronicle the lives of scientists and their discoveries, in sequential order, that would be appropriate for a 6 year old. (A 6 year old who plans to be a physicist and loves Stephen Hawking documentaries.) Any suggestions?
Alte Veste Academy
Inventing the Future We love this book! It is an engaging, chronological narrative of the lives and discoveries of scientists. Edited June 29, 2012 by Alte Veste Academy
redsquirrel
Well, Hakim's The Story of Science is what comes to mind. My 7 year old will listen to it as a read out loud. But, for a kid like yours, you might want to save the series to use when s/he is older. It has teacher books and student books (I haven't seen that part of the program) and could cover history/science for a couple middle school years. We use it as a history 'extra' for my logic stage child. But, my younger likes it and asks me to read from it occasionally.
ChandlerMom
Mathematicians are people, too (2 vol) would be nice for read aloud. http://www.amazon.com/Mathematicians-Are-People-Too-Stories/dp/0866515097/ref=pd_bxgy_b_text_b http://www.amazon.com/Mathematicians-Are-People-Too-Stories/dp/0866518231/ref=pd_bxgy_b_text_b Ancient Science is another one with experiments: http://www.amazon.com/Ancient-Science-Time-Traveling-World-Exploring-History-Making/dp/0471215953/ref=tmm_pap_title_0 Hakim is definitely more through, but I'm saving for closer to middle school aged. ;)
helena
Probably not the right book, but thought I'd throw it out there: http://www.amazon.com/Picture-History-Inventors-Gillian-Clements/dp/0711216053
Down_the_Rabbit_Hole
Have you looked at Beautiful Feet's History of Science? It is written at a young 4th grade level but could be done.
Spetzi
I haven't read it but Janice Van Cleave has a book called The Story of Science (I think).
