I like the student to have just a smooth clip board with just a piece of paper on it. If the clipboard isn't smooth, I put just one extra piece, under the piece they are writing on. I've learned the hard way, that the ugly tan clipboards are the best. And I tape a strip with the script they are using onto the clip.
