Could you please tell me about your experience and please share what you and/or your child or children liked about it? Please share anything at all that you thought was good, positive, fun, and/or spiritually edifying. :001_smile:

It was THE year that I personally got the most from. It gave me my first real scope and eye-opening experience with Stalin, Hitler, socialism, everything that has led to where we are today. I had so many ah-hah moments that year that I couldn't even count them all. I remember being blown away to read about Brother Andrew and see the powerful impact that prayer had on the tearing down of the Berlin Wall. It was also amazing to find out information about how Rees Howells and others with him prayed so much through WWII and the impact that had. It led me to go on and read a book about Rees Howells. Even at the earliest part of that period, we read Courage to Run and were drawn in to that story as well. Others may disagree, but that was the most powerful year of MFW for us. I also liked using SOTW AG and learning more about how to outline.

That sounds great! I've never even heard of Rees Howells! I have alot to learn about this time-period.

I hope it's not too difficult (history content wise) for my 5th grader. He is not at all sensitive but I know the topics will be heavier than anything else he has ever covered before. That's why I am hoping there are fun and positive things to focus on too. I think he will love the music and the cooking suggestions.

hi Donna,

year 5 was my favorite mfw year. I've used everything from preschool to WHL (and plan to do us1 and us2 soon)

I did 1850MOD five years ago for the first time and will do it again this fall...

when all of the excitement was in my brain... I wrote about a lot of it on mfw board... can I just be lazy and link to those comments that I shared? thanks...

it's in 4 posts on this one thread....

I remember really liking it all. Bible was a good year... history was good.. the mix of multiple level teaching was fun for me. more details on that link... and some of Julie in MN's stories are there too....

we'd say the same things over here as we say there... but I'm too lazy to type it all again.

That's fine Crystal! Thank you!

This particular year of MFW has always appealed to me. I started reading A Young Person's Guide to Knowing God last night. I really didn't expect to love it but I do! The first few stories touched my heart and I am excited about sharing them with the children. I also like the book about Iran. We have a soft spot in our hearts for Iran and already pray for the Iranians regularly. I think it's great that MFW included that in this year.
