Killgallon's Grammar books (sentence composing approach)

Recommended Posts

Has anyone used the high school grammar along with the sentence composing workbook? Did you use this as your only grammar program? Is your student a natural grammarian?:D

I have wayyy too many grammar programs on my shelves and I like various things about each one. So, I have to decide what to use, how much of it to use, and when to use it :tongue_smilie:

I would love some feedback from those who have used Killgallon's books.

TIA

Cynthia,

We have used all three Killgallon Sentence Composing books, and I own the Grammar book as well. The grammar book is very much like the High School Sentence Composing book except the format is more user-friendly. It is not a comprehensive grammar text; its focus is phrases and clauses. Because of the overlap, I don't think you would want to use both.

Grammar was my dc's least favorite subject, but I made them complete through Rod and Staff 8; however, they both enjoyed the Killgallon books.

Blessings,

Susan

We are using both books right now. At the lowest level and well start the next level in the fall using both books. Bear in mind that my boys had dyslexia and my oldest son had a severe form of it so we are behind in writing and grammar. I am also using easy grammar and http://www.englishgrammar101.com/Lessons/Default.aspx and will move to http://systemsinlearning.com/ClassicGrammar.aspx in the fall. If you keep your security high on your browser you will not get the add when using these sites.

I am also checking out a program Jan P posted about called Thinking Through Grammar http://www.drwhimbey.com/index.html which seems to work on a sentence level.

Reading levels are at grade level right now and my goal is to raise grammar, writing, and math (oldest son only) levels to grade level in the next year to 18months. So our hs is a little language arts heavy. We spend a good part of every day working through the Killgallon's books.
