1. What happens when a penny is put in vinegar and turns green? Why green?

2. Is this the same thing that is happening to make Statue of Liberty green?

3. When looking through a Galileo type telescope my son observed that images appear upside down. Why? Does this also occur with a modern telescope with mirrors (which we do not have to actually look through and see, but I thought not)? If not, why not?

A lens makes it upside down (even our eyes invert the image and our minds turn it right side up). A mirror makes the image backwards--just like when you look in the mirror. If there are two mirrors, it turns it 180 degrees and looks normal. So your view depends upon how the light has traveled through your scope to your eye. Some telescopes have lenses, others mirrors, some both.
