Kendall
My 8th grader would like to do more logic. He has done fine with Traditional Logic I and II but he doesn't feel like he really "owns" it. Do you have any ideas for a high school semester logic course? I own Socratic Logic by Kreeft and Material Logic by Cothran? I haven't used either book before. He has read Fallacy Detective and maybe some of Thinking Toolbox. I just purchased the Art of Argument to use with my rising 7th grader. Do you have any other book suggestions or general suggestions about how to go about this? My ideal course includes a book that doesn't exist. This is a book that would have essays, news articles, speeches, etc. for us to analyze and would include an answer key:001_smile: Thanks! Pamela in VA
I would look at the other logic books by Classical Academic Press (publisher of AoA). Even though some of it might repeat Traditional I and II, I don't think it will be as dry. We are loving AoA and plan to continue with Discovery of Deduction and Argument Builder. Lizzie in Ma
Kreeft's Socratic Logic is wonderful, we are using it this year for 10th.
Kendall
Did you use this Socratic Logic for a year or a semester? It looks like it could work for a year. Did you just start at the beginning and work through the entire book? Did you add anything to it? Thanks!
