mom24cuties
As I am researching my curriculum options for 2012-2013 I came across fiar, and beyond fiar and it looks really interesting, but is there anything like this that is free? My children going to be K, 2nd, and 4th.
Aurelia
Check homeschoolshare.com. Very similar to FIAR, but with different books, and IIRC, they have some additional activities for the FIAR stories.

jenangelcat
I wrote my own FIAR last year. Use your favourite books and/or add some new ones. Go through the books in advance and find activities and further study ideas to go with them. For a lot of the more popular kids books, you cangoogle the book title + student activities and come up with lots of ideas.
EastTNmom
Homeschoolshare.com is a favorite here too! I also came across Lesson Pathways recently and plan to use some of their LA lessons next year. http://www.lessonpathways.com/Pathways/Detail/13246/language-arts

Miss Tick
I found a book at my library called Picture Book Activities by Trish Kuffner that has a lot of good ideas. It is worth checking for, I think she had sample 5-day and 3-day schedules in it.
pitterpatter
Not free, but this was $3.50 once (see link below). Who knows, if you keep an eye on it, it may go that cheap again. http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=358063&highlight=Five-in-a-row This is another book that reminds me of FIAR. You can pick up a used copy for $4 shipped on Amazon. There are a couple of different versions/age levels. I'd check your local library for it before purchasing.
